In the framework of interaction with the activities released by the Center for Educational Research and Development to schoolchildren, and in relation to the countenance of their culture and their national and social heritage, and spreading it to other schoolchildren all over the Lebanese territory, a striking and expressive initiative emerged as the students of Bir Zeit School from the UNRWA schools teaching Palestinian students in Lebanon.
They have made handy works such as a bag embroidered by hands of Palestinian flag on one side and the Lebanese flag on the other side, a cash traded in the Ottoman period and then in the French Legation phase down to the money in circulation nowadays, in addition to pictures of Lebanese touristic places and poems about "My country Lebanon" written by Palestinian students, in addition to hand-embroidered pieces with their hands and their special cuisine.
That was a token of appreciation from the students themselves to the President of the Center for Educational Research and Development Dr. Nada Oweijane for reviving their heritage and exchanging it with their peers from other schools.
Dr. Oweijane disclosed her gratefulness for this initiative which echoed positively in Bir Zeit school and its Palestinian students who live in Lebanon, and expressing the specificities of their identity in the region.
Dr. Oweijane considered that openness to cultures is a way of exchanging and reviving national heritage and identities; she also stressed on the importance of preserving the national culture in favor of any foreign one, and that in the fear that entire generations will be brought up in a culture that does not resemble them.
At the end, Dr. Oweijane contacted the school director Ms. Fawzia Zeidan and thanked them for their substantial consideration in the UNRWA schools; Dr. Oweijane also contacted the Director of Educational Affairs at the UNRWA Mr. Salem Deeb and conveyed high gratitude for the efforts which resulted in response to this rich interaction hoping for further cooperation to raise the level and quality of education and enrich the school life with intellectual advancement.
