The President Dr. Nada Oweijane launched the vision of the Center for Educational Research and Development for the achievement of the sustainable development 2030 goals, through education.
These same goals were set by the United Nations in order to preserve the natural resources and improve human life conditions on the planet in all respects.
In her speech, Dr. Oweijane said:
As the name indicates, the Center for Educational Research and Development is committed to basic principles, translated into three tasks firmly established in its legal mandate.
At the National level, CERD plays a key role in building the Lebanese society's elements, through integrating knowledge, skills and attitudes supporting active and social citizens capable of making a difference in their country.
At the Sectorial level, CERD is the focal point of providing National educational statistics and designing, planning and implementing the educational Strategies, Policies and Plans through leading wide national consultations across the public and private educational institutions.
At the Educational level, CERD is assertive on continuously developing and modernizing the educational sector by diligently pursuing international changes and quality benchmarks and opening-up to partnerships with international stakeholders, in order to strengthen the National affiliation and preserve the Lebanese identity and values.
In her vision, Dr. Oweijane considered that the quality of education is linked to a humanitarian and social vision aimed at preparing an active citizen learner and providing equal access to education for all children.
She pointed up that these goals must be included in the country's comprehensive national and social policy as a rule aimed at bringing together all the partners involved in the educational process, from learners to teachers and school administrations, to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development combining economics and environment; and considered it the process of preparing citizens to be active in their countries and be partners in the global efforts to preserve the planet.
In her presentation, Dr. Oweijane showed the importance of integrating these goals in the curriculum to target all citizens; as once educated, they could be ready to deliver in both normal and unusual circumstances as well as in emergencies.
Dr. Oweijane ensured that the quality of education at all national levels and on global standards, including the promotion of leadership capacities, institutional organization, evaluation, development and follow-up, will raise the quality of education and its aftermath.
